Most orgeat is milky white and one-note sweet. BG Reynolds Orgeat is golden and built a little rougher on purpose: the almonds go in skins-on, lending a faint bitterness that keeps the sweetness honest, and it's sweetened with brown sugar instead of plain cane for a thread of molasses. Made for a proper Mai Tai with an aged-rum split, and just as at home in a Fog Cutter or an Eastern Sour. A half ounce is the going rate.

Founder Blair Reynolds has been in the tiki world since 2001, first posting on the Tiki Central message board and touring the last of the old Polynesian palaces, then chronicling the drinks, the rooms, and the bartenders at TraderTiki.com. That writing led to the stage at Tales of the Cocktail, Tiki Oasis, and FEAST, where he's a regular authority on all things tiki. In 2012 he opened Hale Pele in Portland, Oregon, routinely named one of the best tiki bars in the world. BG Reynolds began when a frustrated bartender lamented how hard it was to make cocktail ingredients by hand, to standard, night after night - within months Reynolds built an original orgeat with real almonds and cane sugar to solve exactly that problem, and the rest of the line followed.
