Bethel Rd Distillery
Our Story
The path to Bethel Rd. has been one of passion, experimentation and homage to the tradition of spirit making from around the world. In its first phase of production, Bethel Rd. has created two outstanding Grappas, a Gin, and a two-year barrel-aged Brandy that is both rich and complex. Creativity and community are at the center of the Bethel Rd. mission, with the goal being to manifest a space that is both inviting and inspirational.
The Founders
Since founder Niels Udsen's time living in Italy, making Italian-style Grappa was something he dreamed of. After acquiring one of the first distilling licenses in the county and an Arnold Holstein Bavarian still, the dream became a reality. The distillery is run by the Udsen family of Castoro Cellars, pioneers of Paso Robles wine country, with Max Udsen as Head Distiller, mastering the distillation process after returning to the area from working vintages abroad.
How We Make It
Distilled from estate-grown, organically farmed grapes on an Arnold Holstein Bavarian still, sharing production roots with sister winery Castoro Cellars.

Founder
Dreamed of making Italian-style Grappa since living in Italy, and acquired one of the first distilling licenses in the county to build Bethel Rd.
Max Udsen
Head Distiller
Grew up in the wine industry and spent vintages abroad before returning to Templeton to master the distillation process at Bethel Rd.
