Batch 22's New American Aquavit — labeled 'Gold' on the bottle — honors Scandinavian tradition while reworking the category around citrus, toasted caraway, and dill instead of the assertive anise, fennel, and cumin of classic aquavit. All-natural and sugar-free, with no artificial additives; gluten-free. Suited to sipping neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails like a Negroni, Bloody Mary, or Spritz.

About Batch 22

Batch 22
Los Angeles, CA
Est. 2022
Batch 22 is an American Aquavit created in Los Angeles by three lifelong friends - Matthew Arkin, Marc, and Bruce - with a mission to establish American Aquavit as America's next great spirit obsession. Rather than following traditional Scandinavian aquavit's anise-, fennel-, and cumin-forward profile, Batch 22 reworks the category around citrus, toasted caraway, and dill for something the brand describes as smooth, sippable, and mixable.
View brand profile →The Founder's Note
Matthew Arkin — son of actor Alan Arkin — first tasted a homemade, unlabeled spirit shared on a 1970s film set in Eastern Europe. Decades later, during the pandemic, he set out to recreate it in his Los Angeles kitchen with hand-zested lemons, hand-chopped herbs, and hand-ground spices, working through recipe after recipe with friends Marc and Bruce until arriving at their 22nd — and final — batch, which became the brand's name.
How It's Made
Hand-crafted in small batches — hand-zested lemons, hand-chopped herbs, hand-ground spices — and redistilled around toasted caraway and dill alongside citrus and baking spices, a deliberate departure from the anise-, fennel-, and cumin-forward profile of traditional Scandinavian aquavit. All-natural and sugar-free, with no artificial additives; gluten-free.
Tasting Notes
Aroma: dill, cinnamon, caraway, candied orange, dried fig, and star anise. Palate: toasted caraway, dill, baking spices, toasted rye bread, angelica root, and fennel. Finish: tingling and complex, medium-long, with lingering caraway and dill.
