Laurel Canyon Spirits
Our Story
Laurel Canyon Spirits was founded in 2019 by two families intertwined through a lifetime of friendship: Bryan and Dayna Turcotte, and Tammy and Nathan Ehrenfeld. The story traces back over two decades to when Bryan and Dayna began crafting a family recipe coffee liqueur in their own kitchen in the Laurel Canyon neighborhood of Los Angeles. Word of mouth and growing demand for the liqueur among friends and family eventually sparked the entrepreneurial push to commercialize it. The brand's name, Hjerte, is the Danish word for heart, reflecting the founders' guiding principle that everything they make should come from the heart, be made with heart, and be shared with the world with heart.
The Founders
Bryan and Dayna Turcotte have backgrounds in music production, live performance, and art curation across Los Angeles. After buying their first home in Laurel Canyon in November 2002, a 100-foot sycamore tree fell on the house, and in the aftermath they began gifting batches of their homemade coffee liqueur to friends and family. The growing demand for it eventually led them and their close friends Tammy and Nathan Ehrenfeld to found Laurel Canyon Spirits together.
How We Make It
Laurel Canyon Spirits' products are produced and bottled by Sutherland Distillery in Livermore, California. The White Hjerte Vodka is distilled from California corn through an extended fermentation process, column distilled, then double filtered. The Black Hjerte line starts from that same corn vodka, French-pressed with dark roasted coffee beans, then varies by expression (cold brew, barrel aging).
